Explore this Eagle-Eye Design Space

The Eagle's Nest is a multi-generational retreat built expressly for having a good time, and this small-but-essential space is where the house gets its name.

1. Perched among the pines on the third story of a house that’s set on piers and is already elevated 15 feet above the ground, the nearly 200-square-foot “nest” of the Eagle’s Nest reinforces the home’s tree-house vibe.

2. Structural Douglas fir timbers provide the room’s framework. The post-and-beam joinery uses metal brackets, as opposed to mortise-and-tenon construction.

3. Not only do the windows offer panoramic views of Montana’s majestic mountains, but their stacked design and undivided panes provide clear sightlines no matter if you’re sitting or standing. The owners say that when they’re lucky, they catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

4. The walls’ dusty blue-green hue makes them seemingly melt into the landscape.

5. Cable railings preserve the view while providing safety for those climbing the spiral staircase that accesses the space from the loft below.
