By using dark stains and paints in your home, you can actually make both your interior and the outside world seem brighter and cheerier. It’s all about perception. Architects and interior designers know this, and in areas with heavy cloud cover — like the Pacific Northwest — they often design a relatively dark-toned room with exceptionally large windows. This way, the outdoors won’t appear as gloomy, and the surrounding countryside will pop, like a living mural, within the space.
