A Timber Mountain Masterpiece

February 2009 | Timber Home Living
by: Bridget McCrea | photos: Heidi Long

Timber Home Exterior
A lookout tower and porte cochere create a luxurious, welcoming atmosphere for the Tiffins and their guests.

Timber Home Porte Cochere
The Tiffins followed the design concept behind Frank Lloyd Wright's Wisconsin home, Taliesin, which displayed his affinity toward God-given materials

Stone Arch
A stone arch connects the Tiffin's home to their 600-acre ranch.

Timber Home Dining Room
Floor-to-ceiling windows usher light into the cozy dining area, complete with overstuffed chairs and the warm glow of candles.

Timber Home Great Room
The home's great room boasts 22-foot-high ceilings whose materials give the illusion of being in a forest. Ceiling elements include a mix of timber and steel tie rods that capture the homeowners' desire to mix classic and modern materials.

Timber Sun Room
Art glass on display on grid of cubby shelves over the wall of windows filters sunlight into the conservatory.

Timber Home Kitchen
Low-voltage lighting hangs from the timber beams in the kitchen, where a modern-mountain aesthetic has made its way to the countertops, cabinets, flooring and chairs.

Timber Home Hall
Bright accents combine with neutral walls and floors for a burst of color and life in the hall.

Timber Home Trusses
A spider web of beams, steel tie rods and low-voltage lighting round out the Tiffin's desire to create a natural living space.
