Lakefront timber home exterior
To complement the natural beauty of their home, the Carmichaels went with Cape Cod finished wood siding, made from Western Canadian lodgepole pine, topped off with an asphalt-shingle roof.

The Carmichaels' boathouse was built on top of a steel pier with living quarters above, complete with a deck overlooking Lake Muskoka.

timber boathouse kitchen
White cabinetry, beadboard walls and wicker furniture lend the kitchen of the boathouse a fresh, cottage-y feel.

In the main house, an open-plan kitchen with built-in wine storage was a no-brainer for the couple, who love to entertain.

timber home dining room
In the main house’s dining room, Eastern white pine framing mingles with stone and a beadboard ceiling to create an eye-catching contrast.

timber home living room
Made from local granite, the 14-foot-tall fireplace in the great room of the main house took six months to build by hand. The wall of windows provides uninterrupted views of the couple’s 1,500 feet of waterfront property.

timber home master bedroom
Unfussy furniture, cheery prints and splashes of bold color put the master bedroom perfectly in tune with the casual tone of the home.

timber home master bath
A vaulted ceiling in the master bathroom makes the room feel even more spacious, while a sizable vanity houses plenty of storage and two classically styled sinks. The painted beadboard paneling continues the cottage feel found throughout the home.

timber home boathouse living room
Because of moisture concerns inside the boathouse, composite click flooring was used instead of hardwood in the upstairs living quarters. You can see it under the bright area rug in the guesthouse’s living room.

timber home foyer
Whimsical carved bears, created by a New Brunswick artist, strike a playful note throughout the house. In the main home’s foyer, a couple bears greet guests.
