Murus Company | Structural Insulating Panels

Murus Company Structural Insulating Panels

The Murus Company, Inc. was originally founded over twenty one years ago for the sole purpose of supplying insulating panels to the timber framing industry. Since a timber frame is in itself a complete self-supporting structure, Murus Polyurethane, EPS (Expanded Polystyrene), and XPS (Extruded Polystyrene) SIPs are the perfect compliment, providing excellent R-values while saving considerable construction time over stick framed, built-up enclosures.

Today, Murus SIPs are utilized by a large number of timber framers throughout the country as an integral part of their package offerings. Murus SIPs have numerous features that make installation over timber frame structures faster, easier, and more energy efficient than conventional framing methods. A variety of panel skins, panel thicknesses, and lengths ensures the right product for the job. The outstanding energy performance, superior strength, and design flexibility that Murus SIPs provide have made them an increasingly popular building material for timber frames and hybrid structures.

Murus is proud to be an ENERGY STAR® Insulation Partner. Murus SIPs are ideal for GREEN building projects because of their ability to reduce heating and cooling loads and create a secure building envelope. Using Murus SIPs can contribute to certification under the LEED and NAHB standards. Murus SIPs are engineered to be thermally stable, maintaining their R-value over time, and can save significantly on heating and cooling energy consumption.

With R-values ranging from R-16 to R-57, depending upon the type of foam core and thickness chosen, Murus SIPs create a tight, energy efficient building envelope to surround your timber frame and maintain a consistently comfortable living environment.

Murus Polyurethane SIPs

Murus Polyurethane SIP foam is safe to humans and the environment and does not contain formaldehyde, CFC’s, HCFC’s, or other ozone-depleting compounds. It is an organic material made from petroleum by-products and recycled materials. Murus Polyurethane foam provides the highest R-value per inch of thickness of any SIP foam core available.

• Murus's patented, high-impact plastic Cam-Lock system saves considerably on installation time over other SIP systems, and can offer even greater time savings over conventional stud wall construction.

• The molded tongue and groove edge profile assures quick, proper alignment of panel-to-panel joints. Once installed and sealed with spray foam, the result is a continuous uniformity of insulation that is lacking in spline connection systems.

• A standard electrical chase is embedded horizontally in the foam core during manufacture. Three standard chase height options are available. Additional chase heights can be added.

• Murus Polyurethane SIPs are backed by a lifetime warranty against delamination. Contact Murus for complete warranty details.

Murus EPS SIPs

Murus EPS SIPs are a high quality, competitively priced alternative to conventional construction, offering dependable performance and superior R-values. Murus EPS foam contains no formaldehyde, CFC’s, HCFC’s, or HFC’s.

• Murus EPS SIPs are installed using wooden key splines to join the panels together. Typical panel-to-panel connection is achieved using two (interior and exterior) plywood key splines. Panels are manufactured with core dimensions that allow dimensional lumber to be incorporated for additional load-bearing support.

• Murus EPS SIPs carry a limited 10-year warranty against manufacturer’s defects in materials and workmanship. Contact Murus for complete warranty details.

Murus XPS SIPs

Murus XPS SIPs provide superior insulating properties with outstanding R-values per inch of thickness. Murus XPS panels are an excellent alternative to EPS where higher R-values and/or thinner cross-sections are required.

The XPS foam manufacturing process consists of extruding the foam into the desired shape and thickness, milling it to assure dimensional uniformity, then pressure-laminating it to the panel skins. An extremely durable one-part structural urethane adhesive is used which is reacted to set while under pressure. The resulting bond is stronger than the materials it laminates together.

Murus XPS SIPs are installed using plywood key splines to join the panels together. Panels are manufactured with core dimensions that allow dimensional lumber to be incorporated for additional load-bearing support, if required.

• Murus XPS SIPs carry a limited 10-year warranty against manufacturer’s defects in materials and workmanship. Contact Murus for complete warranty details.

ENERGY STAR, superior energy performance, a healthy living environment, design flexibility, fast installation - these are just some of the rewards for building with Murus SIPs.
